Send Your First Campaign
Compose, test, target, and send (or schedule) a one-off email campaign in Maildesk.
A campaign is a one-off email sent to some or all of your subscribers — a newsletter issue, a product announcement, a promotion. Here’s the full flow from blank page to sent.
Before you start
- A verified sending domain. If the Campaigns page shows an amber banner asking you to add or verify a domain, do that first: Connect your sending domain.
- At least a few subscribers. Import them from CSV if you haven’t.
Step 1: Create the campaign
- Go to Campaigns and start a new campaign.
- Give it a campaign name — internal only, your subscribers never see it (e.g.
August Newsletter). - Write your subject line. You can insert merge tags like
{{firstName}}directly in the subject. - Create the draft — you land in the composer.
Step 2: Write your email
The composer gives you a full rich-text editor:
- Format text, add headings, lists, and links.
- Upload images straight into the email.
- Click Insert Social Links in the toolbar to drop in the social profiles you configured under Settings > Social Links.
- Use merge tags in the body for personalization.
Your work autosaves as a draft, so you can leave and come back.
Step 3: Pick your From address
In the sidebar, choose the From address. Only verified email addresses from your domain appear here — if the dropdown is empty, add an address on your domain settings page.
Step 4: Choose your audience
Click the Audience button. The modal asks: send to every subscriber, or build a filter to target a specific group?
- All subscribers — everyone with a confirmed subscription.
- Filter subscribers — build a tag filter: match all, any, or none of the tags you select. The modal shows a live Total: N subscribers count as you adjust the filter, so you always know exactly how many people you’re about to email.
If you haven’t set up tags yet, see Organize subscribers with tags.
Step 5: Send a test email
Always test before you send. Click Send Test Email, enter your own address, and check the result in your inbox:
- Does the subject read well? Did merge tags render with real values (not blanks)?
- Do images load and links work?
- How does it look on your phone?
Step 6: Send or schedule
In the Delivery section, pick one:
- Send now — the button reads Send Campaign; click it and your email goes out immediately.
- Schedule — the button becomes Schedule Campaign and opens a modal for the date, time, and timezone. Schedule for when your audience actually reads email — mid-morning in their timezone is a good starting point.
After sending
The campaign’s status moves through Scheduled → Processing → Completed on the Campaigns list, and its analytics page starts filling in. See Understand your campaign analytics for what the numbers mean.
